Pumphouse Studio Gallery shows Michael Chesley Johnson's paintings and is the administrative headquarters of his popular 4 day outdoor (plein air) painting workshops, Paint Sedona.  Student studio is located in Sedona, but most of the work is done outdoors. Pumphouse Studio Gallery is open by appointment.  You can visit the studio of Michael Chesley Johnson, and he'll gladly talk to you about his process for oil and pastel painting whether in the studio or out on location, en plein air.  Also, you can view dozens of his oil and pastel paintings, many of which have not been exhibited before.  Or, talk to Michael about a commission!  If you have a favorite view, let him know.

Taking Reservations for Paint Sedona Now Beginning October 27, 2015

We are taking reservations for our Paint Sedona Plein Air Painting Workshops.  The program begins October 27th and is offered until April 15, 2016.  Pick you week and if you are the first to sign up you can request a special subject or medium workshop.  $300 per week, 4 students maximum, customizable.

Opened for the Plein Air Painting Season Now until Mid-April!

I now have two separate studio spaces, one for painting in pastel (above) and the other for painting in oil (below.)  I've always wanted to have two separate areas for this, so it's a dream realized.

While you're here, you can look over my paintings and see if there's anything you like.  I have many demos and sketches that are available at very reasonable prices, as well as many framed and finished works.

Another Season of Painting Sedona En Plein Air!

The new 2012/2013 season for Paint Sedona plein air painting workshops is about to begin.  The workshops run from November to April and are designed to offer something for everyone.  Some are weeks for all levels of student and cover the basics of plein air painting.  Other weeks are for advanced painters who need information that isn't covered in a basic workshop, such as advanced color theory.  A few "adventure" weeks are also scheduled, and include Hiking to Paint and Exploring the Verde Valley.

Workshops consist of four half-days - you can paint in the mornings and then explore new territory on your own.  Some students like to paint more; others like to take a nice hike, go for a Jeep tour or want to shop.  Sedona has much to offer!

Workshops are "small size" - no more than four students.  You'll get lots of  personal attention in these workshops.  Plus, if you want a customized workshop, such as pastel-only, if you can get four people together, we can customize the workshop for you.
